The Three Rivers Petroglyph site is one of the largest such sites in the Southwest. More than 21,000 petroglyphs are scattered over 50 acres of northern Chihuahuan Desert. The petroglyphs date from between 900 and 1400 AD and were created by Jornada Mogollon people using stone tools to remove the dark exterior patina of the basalt rock ridge above the Three Rivers Valley
